This swap came right at the same time that I started exploring Zentangles. I had never heard of this technique until I joined Swap-Bot. I instantly felt that the Pisces ATC would be a great way to utilize the different designs and textures of pattern. I really like how this ATC turned out. I love the whimsical feel the Zentangle designs produced here as well as the simplicity of working in only black and white.
This ATC is entirely hand drawn and colored. The object of the swap was to represent the sacred heart symbol in an ATC. I guess the swap coordinator inspired me when she mentioned paints, pens, pencils etc. I felt compelled from the start to do this one by hand.
This is also the first time I ever used alcohol inks. The heart is done with red alcohol ink on a piece of semi gloss card stock. The flames were then drawn with a permanent ink pen and colored in using my favorite new tool – Prismacolor pens. The Prismacolor pens behave just like the alcohol inks – and can be blended using the colorless blender. This made the flames look more realistic and the background mottled.
I’m getting behind on posting to my blog. I kind of had a flood of deadlines at the same time – but I did get everything done and sent out. Today I received the ATCs from my partner (check the swap-bot page in a day or so to see Jan’s beautiful creations) and I was blown away. I got a glass ATC from her. This makes my “art” valentines seem so amateur. Anyway, we had to send two ATCs – hand drawn, hand painted, mostly hand done ATCs to our partners. I drew my first one and stamped and painted my 2nd one. Here they are:
